At Bassett Dental Practice, we can use oral sedation to help you to feel more relaxed and comfortable about your treatment. There are a number of reasons why sedation may be appropriate:
Oral sedation involves taking a tablet or tablets before your treatment, making you feel drowsy but remaining conscious throughout.
Your dentist will still give you a local anaesthetic to numb the area around the tooth to be treated as sedatives are not painkillers.
You must be accompanied by a responsible adult if you are sedated. After your treatment, they must take you home and stay with you until the effects have completely worn off. This may take up to 24 hours. You should not drive or operate machinery, smoke or consume alcohol during this time.
Your dentist will advise you on sedation during your consultation appointment. Medical conditions requiring prescription drugs may not be compatible with sedation.
Please note that we are not able to provide intravenous (IV) sedation at this practice).
